Using Meditation to Change Your Thinking

Meditation to Change Your Thinking

Meditation is an exercise that helps your mind. It helps to make your mind stronger and to let you have control over your thoughts and emotions. When you meditate, you are able to start recognizing your emotions and your thoughts and you are able to see things from a different perspective.
As you observe your thoughts and your emotions you will become more aware of yourself, and you can regulate the way that you think and talk. The thoughts will no longer control you, and you will be in charge of your mind.

Helping You Focus

Meditation can help you to focus and pay attention to what you are doing. It eliminates distractions and can help you to reach your goals easier. If you get distracted easily, then you are likely someone who is wasting time and procrastinating instead of getting things done.
Paying attention can be a skill, and if you focus on meditation, it can help you because the frontal lobe of the brain holds the place of attention. You will see that as you meditate, this part of your brain will get stronger, and you will be able to stay more alert.

Metacognitive Abilities

Metacognition is a way that you can look at your thoughts and your emotions and be more objective. You can see things from a different perspective and not get stuck in being controlled by your emotions.
We are part of our thoughts and emotions, and if you let them control you, such as being angry or sad, you will not be able to stay in control. When you let your emotions take over, your body will go into fight or flight mode, and this will cause you to not be rational.
Your unconscious brain takes over, and you are being controlled instead of controlling your mind. Metacognition helps you to disconnect from your thoughts and emotions and to be in control of them instead.
Being mindful and meditating allows you to develop your conscious mind and your metacognitive abilities.

Subconscious Programs

You are run by your subconscious programs such as how you feel and act and your personality that is stored in your mind. The way that you see yourself is in your subconscious mind, and because of this, when you are thinking negatively, you will have a lack of abundance and goodness in your life.
When you let your unconscious mind tell you that you aren’t good enough, then you are allowing your brain to control you and to change your beliefs to something negative. As you meditate, you can change this, and you can change your perspective on yourself.
You will be able to see that you are, in fact, good enough even though your mind tells you differently. Once you are aware of your thinking and you meditate, you will see that these thoughts have no real basis in what is real.

Self-Awareness

Meditating helps you to be more self-aware of who you are and the world around you. You have learned so much from your family, the media, school, and other things, and these things could be good or bad.
Sometimes who you are is hidden because of all the things that you have learned, and you have limited yourself and your true nature. As you give into peer pressure and act the way that society tells you, you forget who you are and what your real strengths are.
You forget what makes you happy and who your true sense of self is. Meditating will bring you back into alignment with who you are and what you want.

Getting Rid of Bad Habits

Another thing that meditation can do is to help you get rid of bad habits. You might want to smoke a cigarette, and this comes when you get stressed. This is part of your subconscious and conscious mind, and when you are being mindful, you can see that you won’t be held back by these habits.
The feelings that you associate with your habits are patterns, and these are often fear-based patterns. You might feel stress or tension, and it might make you want to reach out for something negative.
As you build your mind and activate your posterior cingulate cortex when you meditate, your cravings for the bad habit can diminish.

Emotional Strength

There are different things that come to you, and one is your emotional intelligence. This is when you are strong in your interpersonal self and that you have skills to be self-aware and to be able to speak and regulate yourself. This is also where your confidence comes from.

  • Self-awareness is when you are able to look at your internal self and know your strengths. It is also where your intuition lies. You might be able to know when you are getting angry and deal with it instead of it controlling you.
  • Self-regulation happens when you can manage what you are feeling.
  • Empathy is the ability to be able to understand other people and what they are feeling.
  • Self-confidence means that you know your worth.

Meditation can help you to change these skills for the better and to help you to deal with things like impulses and desires that you are aware of but that you are controlled by. You can take control of these things and have self-regulation. You can also use empathy to help you to love yourself more and to understand others.
As you build your self-confidence, you will see that you can get rid of thoughts and ideas that limit you.

Intelligence

You will see that as you meditate, you will be smarter in your body. Being in touch with your body is important for everyday living. You know when you need to eat and when you need to do other things, and your body is good at knowing when you need to breathe, how to walk, how to fight sicknesses, and other health issues.
When you are conscious of your thoughts, and you meditate, you won’t be in a trap in your mind. You can use your mind then to help you to be stronger and to be in touch with who you are.

Here are some benefits of meditating:

  • More intuition: You will be able to listen to what your mind, body, and emotions are telling you so that you can make good decisions.
  • Relaxation: Meditating can help you to learn to relax and to get rid of tension. This can help to clear hormones that cause stress.
  • Self-healing: As you meditate, you will be able to bring healing to your mind and body.
  • Motivation: You will be more motivated to do things like give up food that is unhealthy for you or to stop bad habits.
  • Controlling your emotions: You will be able to be the ultimate control of your emotions, and they won’t be able to hold you back.

Meditation Techniques

There are many types of meditation techniques that you can use to help you focus, but two that we love are focused meditation and open-focus meditation.

Focused Meditation

This is a kind of meditation that allows you to be alert for a long period of time. You will just sit quietly and focus your attention on your body. As you deep breathe, you will need to notice what your body feels like. Pay attention to your breathing over and over again.
As you meditate, you will focus your attention on whatever you want to, and you will have control over where your attention is focused. Once you start having limiting thoughts, you can get your attention back in order.

Open Focused Meditation

This is also called mindfulness meditation and is a way that you focus on nothing. You stay alert and you keep your attention on your breathing, and when it starts to wander, you get it back to where it was. You will feel the sensations in your body, and you are thoughtful of what you are thinking about, but you don’t focus on this. You just focus on nothing.
It is easy to do mindful meditation if you have done focused meditation first to keep your mind calm. Mindful meditation is able to happen so that you can stay in the present and you can keep your mind and your body calm and focused.

Final Thoughts

Meditation is a way that you can be mindful of what you are feeling and what you are sensing. You can practice this and keep trying until you can get better at it. Be patient with yourself, and you will see that this can change your life for the good.

    • @CuriousCat99 Maybe that’s where mindfulness comes in? You just focus on the present moment—like remembering your grocery list! 🛒

  6. “Just think positive thoughts and everything will be fine”—sure, because that’s worked so well throughout history… 🙄
