A personal introduction

Meet Felicia Shepard

My name is Felicia Shepard, and I am a Reiki healer. At different points in my life I’ve been tired of being, well, sick and tired. I’ve tried traditional healing methods, massages, and medication, but it never left me feeling quite right. When I discovered Reiki, I knew that I wanted to share this practice with other people, in addition to implementing it in my life. I dove into this Japanese practice and never looked back.

This personal account is not medical advice or evidence that Reiki is more effective than medication or other care. Experiences differ; do not stop prescribed treatment or delay medical assessment because of a spiritual practice.

1

Personal meaning

Spiritual traditions can offer a way to reflect on your experiences. You decide what feels meaningful to you.

2

Clear distinctions

Reiki, massage and psychic readings are different practices. Personal experiences and health evidence are different kinds of information.

3

Your choice

Ask questions, set boundaries and take time to decide. You can decline touch or end a session.

Understanding the practice

Reiki, evidence and choice

Reiki is a Japanese complementary practice in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or above a person. It is distinct from massage and from psychic readings. Energy-flow and chakra explanations are spiritual beliefs, not verified causes of illness or methods for identifying what a body needs.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that Reiki has not been clearly shown to work for health-related purposes and that there is no scientific evidence for the energy field proposed in Reiki. Feeling relaxed or refreshed is a personal experience, not proof that an illness has been treated.
